5 Things to Know About the Tennessee Square Dance Convention in Gatlinburg

The Tennessee Square Dance Convention is back in Gatlinburg for its 40th year! We’ve got the scoop on everything you need to know about this Smoky Mountain tradition.

When

The Tennessee Square Dance Convention in Gatlinburg will be start on Thursday, July 3 and continue through Saturday, August 2, 2014. The convention kicks off on Thursday with a Trail-In Dance from 8 pm to 11 pm. On Friday, the dancing starts at noon and goes till 11 pm. The Saturday hours start at 10 a.m. and the convention winds down at 11 p.m. A weekend ticket package is only $35 at the door.

Location

The W. L. Mills Conference Center is hosting the Tennessee Square Dancing Convention again this year. It is a wing of the Gatlinburg Convention Center, located at 234 Historic Nature Trail, Gatlinburg, TN 37738.

Activities

Square dancing is the official folk dance of Tennessee and with five different halls withcontinuous dancing, there will be no shortage of things to do. Make sure to wear your convention shirt to Thursday’s Trail-in Dance and bring your dancing shoes. There will be no dancing on carpet, because all five of the halls have wooden floors. There will be over 60 talented dance leaders and on Friday and Saturday evenings and a live band performance will accompany the dancing. It’s going to be a real hootenanny!

Parking

On Friday evening and all day Saturday, there will be free parking just across the street from the convention center in the Reagan Drive city parking lot.
