If you’re planning on a trip to the Smokies, Ober Gatlinburg is a must-visit! From ice skating to wildlife encounters and so much in between, this is the perfect place to go with your family! To help you make the most of your trip, here are 5 family-friendly things to do at Ober Gatlinburg.

1. Take the Aerial Tramway

For some of the best views of the Smokies, take the Aerial Tramway ! It departs regularly from downtown Gatlinburg and will take you on a scenic, 2.1-mile ride up to the Ober Ski Resort and Amusement Park . There are also two 120-passenger counter-balanced cars, so you can enjoy the views with all your friends and family!

2. Ice Skating

Whether you’re a beginner or a professional skater, Ober’s large indoor ice skating rink is perfect for you! If you’re more of a novice skater, there is a handrail around the perimeter of the arena to help you keep your balance. There is still plenty of room for more advanced skaters to glide around the rink. The rink is large enough to have hosted Christmas on Ice events, and the Tennessee Special Olympics ice skating competition each year! If you miss these events, local talent alone can keep you entertained while you’re here.

3. Wildlife Encounter

Meet some amazing new animal friends at Ober Gatlinburg’s Wildlife Encounter ! You’ll be able to get up close and personal with playful River Otters, Bobcats, and Birds of Prey. You can also see their adorable black bear family, including Minnie, BJ, Holly, and Chief. Nocturnal House includes a variety of native wildlife such as raccoons, flying squirrels, and more! This privately funded, municipally sponsored zoo, has been put in place so that people can view the amazing native wildlife in a safe environment. If you plan on visiting in the winter season, please note that some animals hibernate at this time and may not be available for viewing.

4. Ski Mountain Coaster

The Ski Mountain Coaster begins with a 1,000 ft. relaxing ride up the mountainside. You can simply take in the views on your way up in your comfortable cart. As you’re racing down the mountain, you can control your own speed for the next 2,750 ft. of turns, and dips! This coaster can reach speeds up to 25 mph if you allow it. It also borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way down.

5. Ice Bumper Cars

Have some cool fun with your family when you go for a spin in Ober Gatlinburg’s Ice Bumper Cars ! You can glide around the ice with ease in your own round colorful tube. Their controls are similar to those you use to play video games with. You can smash into other cars, zoom around the ice, or simply spin in circles! These bumper cars don’t require any athletic ability, so anyone can have fun with them!
