One of the best things about vacationing in the Smoky Mountains is that there are always new things to explore. Between new restaurants and attractions, each trip is a chance for you to experience once-in-a-lifetime fun and entertainment. As the calendar turns over to a new year, the area has announced this year’s exciting lineup of additions. Here are 4 new things to do in the Smoky Mountains in 2023:

1. Xperia: Ocean Journey

Have you ever wondered what goes on deep under the sea? Well, you will soon be able to find out with an attraction coming to the Smoky Mountains. Xperia: Ocean Journey is a digital cinematic experience that brings the ocean to life with the use of state-of-the-art technology and unbelievable special effects. Some of the things that you can expect to see at the attraction include a life-size humpback whale in 3D, life-like dancing sea lions, and giant battling Humboldt squids. This attraction is set to open in late spring and it will be located at Tanger Outlets in Sevierville.

2. Anakeesta Expansion

While Anakeesta itself might not be one of the new things to do in the Smoky Mountains, they are planning to unveil a new expansion that will blow you away! This spring, you can expect to see the debut of its first double-rail coaster known as Hellbender. The new ride will take guests on an exciting adventure filled with twists and turns along the mountainside. Anakeesta is also planning to add a new section of the park this summer known as BirdVenture. This is going to be an aviary-inspired zone where you can play and imagine life as a bird in the Smokies. There will be huge birdhouses, interactive activities for kids, and seven giant slides!

3. Dollywood’s New Coaster

As you may know, Dollywood is known for its ability to continually add new entertainment for its guests, and 2023 is no exception. This spring, you can join Ned Oakley on his search for the mysterious black bear. The new roller coaster will be the longest coaster at the park to date, featuring 3,990 feet of track. Big Bear Mountain also will feature onboard audio, including music and announcements from Oakley himself as you take the adventure of a lifetime!

4. Dig ‘N Zone Theme Park

Embrace your inner construction worker with a trip to Dig ‘N Zone Theme Park this spring in the Smoky Mountains. This plans to be the world’s largest construction-based theme park with over 25 attractions spread across 27 acres in Sevierville. During your day at the park, children and adults can operate various construction equipment, including excavators, rollers, forklifts, and many more. They are also planning special events throughout the year for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, and more! We guarantee your entire family will “dig” a visit to this new Smoky Mountain attraction.

In addition to the new things to do in the Smoky Mountains, there are so many other wonderful attractions to visit during your stay in one of our cabins. We offer the amazing luxury pass which enables you to receive free Smoky Mountain attraction tickets! We look forward to welcoming you to the Smokies this year!
