Everything You Need to Know About Skiing at Ober Gatlinburg

One of the best things about a winter vacation to the Smoky Mountains is the opportunity to go skiing at Ober Gatlinburg! This popular mountaintop destination offers 10 fun ski slopes to appeal to all skill levels, as well as ski equipment rentals and lessons! Whether you are stepping into skis for the first time or consider yourself an expert, you are sure to have a blast during your visit! Here is everything you need to know about skiing at Ober Gatlinburg:

1. Ski Trail Information

Ober Gatlinburg has 2 beginner trails, 6 intermediate trails and 2 advanced trails for you to enjoy! The ski slopes are generally open from mid-December to early to mid-March, dependent upon the weather. Ober Gatlinburg will make snow for the slopes when the temperatures are below freezing but the slope availability is always dependent upon the current weather conditions. When planning your trip, be sure to consult the official Ober Gatlinburg slope report to find out which specific trails are open for the day.

2. Ski Area Tickets

Skiing

When you are ready to go skiing at Ober Gatlinburg, there are a variety of ski area tickets available for purchase. Each ticket provides unlimited access to the ski slopes and the lifts that service them for one session of skiing. You can purchase a full session, twilight session or night session, as well as multiple day tickets. There are separately priced tickets for adults (ages 12-59), juniors (ages 6-11), and seniors (ages 60-69). Note that guests over 70 years old receive a free ticket! You can also receive one free ski ticket for a child 5 and under per paying adult.

3. Equipment Rental Information

You can rent ski equipment at Ober Gatlinburg , including skis, jackets, snow pants and helmets. The prices for ski rentals vary based on session time. Unlike, the price for jackets, pants and helmets are per day. Remember to return your one day rentals at the end of the day so that you are not charged for another session! Also keep in mind that all rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be reserved in advance.

4. Ski Lessons

Whether you are skiing at Ober Gatlinburg for the first time or just want to brush up on your skills, you can sign up for ski lessons at Ober Gatlinburg ! These courses are taught by professional ski instructors. The instructors are members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA). They emphasize fun and safety. During your lesson, you will learn the techniques of gliding, slowing down and turning to stop. By the end you’ll feel confident in your newfound skiing skills!
