Veterans Day is an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s proud heritage and honor the brave men and women who have allowed us to remain free. This year, the cities of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville will be hosting a series of excellent holiday celebrations. Let’s take a look at some of the best Veterans Day events in the Smoky Mountains.
1. Pigeon Forge Veterans Day Parade
This yearly event is one of the area’s most popular holiday events. The 4th Annual Salute to Veterans Parade includes live entertainment and patriotic floats. The parade will start at Traffic Light #10 along the Pigeon Forge Parkway and conclude at Patriot Park. The end of the parade will mark the official start of the annual Winterfest festival, the Smokies’ four month long seasonal celebration. The parade kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on November 11, 2014. Admission is free.
This moving celebration is held in the plaza in front of Ripley’s Aquarium in downtown Gatlinburg. This event includes live patriotic music, an American bald eagle presentation, speeches from special guests, and a flyover of military planes. The celebration lasts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m on November 11, 2014. Admission is free.
3. Sevierville Veterans Day Celebration
Another great Veterans Day event will be held in Sevierville, at the County Courthouse. This celebration will feature speeches from state and local politicians to honor members of America’s military. One of the highlights of this event is a flyover by the Warbirds of America. Special guests will include State Senator Doug Overbey and County Mayor Larry Waters. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. on November 11, 2014. Admission is free.
