How to Have a Kid-Friendly New Year’s Eve

Rather than bundling up and going out to celebrate the New Year, why don’t you and your family stay in and create new traditions? The Smokies have a ton of fun New Year’s Eve activities, but, for those who would rather stay in with the family to ring in 2014, a New Year’s Eve cabin in Gatlinburg is the perfect way to celebrate together. If you do want to stay in as a family, Timber Tops Luxury Cabin Rentals has put together ways to plan easy and kid-friendly activities for New Year’s Eve.

Play Games

Board games and scavenger hunts are a way to get everyone involved and having a blast. Grab some inexpensive prizes for the winners to make the fun last even longer.

Dress Up

Choosing to stay home with the kids doesn’t mean everyone needs to dress down. Let everyone get glammed up and wear their best. The boys might choose sports clothes while the girls wear a princess gown. The fun is letting them be as casual or outrageous as they want. By letting the kids pick their favorite outfit, they can dance, play and, most importantly, feel special.

Dessert

Have a banana split bar, or make a special cake. Give the kids a special glass of milk in plastic flutes with a cookie on top. Any dessert they love will make the night feel more like a celebration. If your kids would rather keep it low key, grab a pizza while you’re out for the day, and turn the evening’s activities into a pajama party. The fun of having a cabin in Gatlinburg is that you have privacy and are still close to restaurants and attractions.

Favors

Favors and noisemakers are what make it a party! Many people make treat bags or layout favors to choose from. Kids love party hats and having white hats they can decorate are fun keepsakes to make.

Make it Midnight

Some kids might be down for the count long before midnight, so pick a time that you can pretend the New Year has come. They’ll just enjoy celebrating with the grown-ups, and, once they’re asleep, the adults can relax and bring in 2014 in front of a cozy fire.
