The Forbidden Caverns are open on Mondays through Saturdays in April through November, with the first tour departing at 10 am. The last tour of the day departs at 5 pm.

Eastern Woodland Native Americans used the cave as a shelter in the winter months, and the cave river provided a constant supply of water. From the 1920s to the 1940s, the caves were used to make moonshine because the water supply and the isolated location were perfect for making homemade whiskey! In 1964, a group of businessmen were interested in opening this natural attraction to the public. After just a few years of excavation and development, the cave was opened in June of 1967.
